Over 5000 families identified as vulnerable have been provided with relief food supplies in Ikolomani Sub County in Kakamega County.

The Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Mr. Sammy Itemere said following the failure of short rains in the areas, local lost their crops leading to food insecurity in the area.

Speakng at Musoli primary School when he presided over distribution of the food Mr Itemere said 80 schools in the identified area will be supplied with one bag of maize each to enable them integrate school feeding program to protect the health of the children and maintain them in school.

The Principal Secretary said the government will complete the construction of the Sigalagala-Butere road soon. He said there was enough funds to complete the project to enable residents move their goods and services to markets.

He said villagers will also be connected to electricity through the last mile connectivity adding that the government had also equipped the Kakamega referral hospital and other health facilities with modern equipment to provide quality health care.

He said the government has created jobs for the youth in the western region and employed many of the professional from the region in the public service. Mr. Itemere urged residents to support the government in its programs to enable faster socio-economic development in the area.
