The government is committed to equipping the youth with ICT skills that will make them innovate solutions that will drive Kenya’s future socio-economic development, ICT Principal Secretary Jerome Ochieng has said.

Mr Jerome said the ICT is a driving force in society and the government was making deliberate efforts to develop and nurture ICT talent among youth by investing in training and good learning environment in readiness for a digital economy.

While addressed students under the Pupils Reward Scheme (PURES) who were on familiarization tour of government Ministries at the Telposta Towers today,  Mr Jerome said the future of the country will be secured by empowering the youth with transformative ICT skills.

The Principal Secretary said ICT was creating more job opportunities across all sectors of the economy adding that the technology platforms will be deployed to facilitate attainment of the country’s Big Four  transformative agenda.

He said technology will be used  to enhance food production by reliable weather forecast and identifying best soils for particular food crops .

On decent and affordable housing, the Principal Secretary said Technology will be used to develop designs and identify safer and cheap building materials.

The Principal Secretary said, to ensure attainment of universal health, the government is investing in ICT enabled equipment that will conduct diagnostics and enable health providers share data across hospitals in the country.
