Cabinet Secretary for ICT Joe Mucheru has said the government has integrated youth in the development programs to tap into their innovative and creative energies.

Mr Mucheru also said elaborate plans are being made to bring all the youth targeted programes under a single contact to facilitate youth involvement in development programs and empowerment to create and expand job opportunities.

Speaking at an Ongata Rongai Hotel, in Kajiado County today, during the launch of the National Youth Week,  Mr Mucheru said the society looks upon the creative and innovative initiatives of the youth to provide solutions to the development challenges such as the Covid-19.

The Cabinet Secretary said, youth are the pillars of the country, noting that, because of the consideration the government is securing resources and investing in the youth to make them productive members of the community.

He explained that the government is also developing digital infrastructure to provide youth with opportunities for digital jobs.

The Cabinet Secretary lauded the Government initiative to put the youth under the Kazi Mtaani program, which he noted, has earned them income and facilitated the cleaning up of environment.

He said, in an effort to expand the country’s forest cover, the government will recruit the youth who will participate in tree planting exercise aimed at increasing the country’s forest cover to 10 percent.

The Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Gender, Prof. Margaret Kobia and Environment Cabinet Secretary Mr Keriako Tobiko were among the guests who attended the occasion.
