The future of Postal Services in Kenya is assured as the organization relooks its business strategy by coming up with innovative ways driven by technology, says Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary Mrs Fatuma Hirsi.

The innovations that ride on ICT platform include M-post, Posta mobile wallet, Tunza Nyumba na Posta, EMS2Go and M-Njiwa, among others. Postal Corporation of Kenya has also collaborated with Jersey Post and Amazon.

“The new frontier for the postal sector is e-commerce and fin-tech (financial services) and I know Posta Kenya is in there and we will be going big on e-commerce very soon, it is starting up small but it is going to be the change that the postal network needs,” she said.

Post-Master General of the Postal Corporation of Kenya Mr Dan Kagwe revealed plans by the Corporation to venture into international logistics business in the near future.

Combination of e-commerce and logistics will enable Kenyans to shop online and then the Corporation will come in at the logistics, delivering the purchased items to peoples’ doorsteps.

The two spoke during the flagging off ceremony of a fleet of 11 pickup trucks purchased through internally generated revenue, which will help in boosting service delivery at the EMS section of the Corporation.

The vehicles worth Kshs. 39 million will complement the existing fleet and ensure smooth and efficient service delivery. In June this year, the corporation flagged off a fleet of 11 Volkswagen Polos for sales services worth Kshs. 17 million.

The Principal Secretary Congratulated the President for his endorsement as the United Nation’s young people Agenda global champion and urged the corporation to support the youth by creating job opportunities for them.

She said that the government is committed to ensuring there is a vibrant and efficient Posta sector because postal services is a universal  right in most countries including Kenya.

Also present during the event were Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Associated Motors Limited Mr. Moez Jamal and Director of Sales and Marketing at Isuzu East Africa Limited, Engineer Wanjohi Kangangi.
