Kenya Cyber Security Bill has been approved by Cabinet and its awaiting debate by parliament, Cabinet Secretary for Information, communication and Technology Joe Mucheru has said.
Mr. Mucheru said the bill provides for punitive penalties of sh 20 million fine or 20 years imprisonment or both for people convicted of cybercrime.

Mr. Mucheru said cyber security criminal were becoming sophisticated and that the government was sensitizing security and judiciary personnel on collection and interpretation of cyber security evidence for credible trial of suspects.

He said the government had also put in place Computer Crime and Response Team to respond to cyber security issues and attacks in a bid to stem growing cyber threats. He noted that cyber security threatened business and cause lose on customers and investments when the criminals attack individual and organizational systems.

He said the government had intensified cyber security awareness and urged those who own smart devices connected to networks to ensure they keep their access codes safe for security of their data.
He urged and booking agencies to advertise and market their products and services online to attract travel global customers and grow their businesses.

On interoperability of telcos in the mobile money transferrin the country, Mr. Mucheru said they players in the industry have mutually agreed to transact across networks. He said soon, customers would be able to sent and receive money across networks.
