The government plans to provide skills and training to 10, 000 people in the next three months to prepare them on how to identify and register for on-line-work.

Cabinet Secretary for ICT Joe Mucheru said the move is motivated by government desire to sensitize and link the youth to on-line platforms that offer employment that will enable the young people to earn decent living.

Speaking at a Nairobi hotel today when he officially opened Digital Skills for Africa, Mr Mucheru said the government was keen on encouraging the citizens to take up on-line work that currently employ over 41, 000 Kenyans.

He said the government was expanding ICT  infrastructureto meet the growing demand of technological services and products. He said all the 47 Counties arenow covered by broadband adding that there was 78 percent coverage of 3G in the country.

He said the government, in partnership with the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), Rocker Fella Foundation among other partners were providing training to the youth to equip them with IT skills to enable them participate actively in the digital economy.

The Cabinet Secretary called on individuals and Companies to pay up their tax obligations to enable the government obtain resources for the development of infrastructural, health and, educational services among others.

He said the government had provided the Thika School for the blind with digital literacy Program devices that meet their needs.
