ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has said the media is key in transforming the perception about security in the country among global partners.

Mr. Mucheru said the on-going and recently concluded multiple global conferences held in Kenyaand visits by high profile international leaders was an endorsement by the global community of the country’shigh level safety and security.

Addressing Information Officers drawn across the 47 Counties at the Kenya school of Monetary Studies on 23 September 2016, Mr. Mucheru said it was regrettable that journalists concentrate on reporting political stories at the expense of security and development in the country.

He said the high profile international conferences Kenya has hosted recently demonstrates the confidence the international community has in this country.

Mr. Mucheru also called on the KNA reporters to inform and educate the citizens on opportunities that exists in the country to attract investment.

The Chairman of the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) Mr Charles Kerich urged journalists to balance their reporting based on possible security risks and make national interest a priority.

Mr. Kerich said journalist would do a disservice to the country if they sensationalize news on security that discourages tourists and investors. He said MCK would conduct training for journalist soon on reporting on security issues. 23 Sep 2016
