Kenya is ready to set up a single-window system in the film industry to facilitate entry and investment by global film makers in the country, Cabinet Secretary for ICT Joe Mucheru has said.

Mr Mucheru said, with a single window system, filmmakers will be able obtain and submit regulatory documents such as permits and licensing at a single location.

Mr Mucheru added that Kenya is set to co-produce films in the country with world film leaders such as the Bollywood of India that will allow local producers to benefit from experience and technology transfer.

The Cabinet Secretary was responding to request by leading Bollywood film actors from India during the India Kenya Film Festival held at the New Stanley Hotel in Nairobi today.

The filmmakers had sought for government incentives in the industry and a one-stop shop for film makers in Kenya to make the destination competitive.

Mr Mucheru said the single window system would increase the efficiency and saves on time and cost for filmmakers seeking to obtain relevant clearance and permits from government authorities and agencies.
In the past, film makers attempting to obtain the necessary papers, permits, and clearances had to visit multiple government agencies in different locations, a situation that was costly and caused delay.
Kenya, the Cabinet Secretary noted, will developing a vibrant infrastructure and frameworks that will support investment and growth in the filming industry.

He reiterated that even as the Kenya encouraged film shooting in the scenic locations, the government was committed to protecting its environment and wildlife for the benefit of future generations.

Mr Dramandra Mehra, a leading film producer in India announced that, leading Bollywood actors will shoot a film in Kenya next year.
