The Government spokesperson, Col. (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna, said the government is committed to delivering affordable housing to all Kenyans particularly to low and middle income in an effort to fulfill constitutional requirement.
Colonel (Rtd) Oguna said, it is a right of every citizen to own a home adding that, the government has started facilitating construction of affordable housing, for mortgaging.

Speaking during a weekly press briefing at the Government media center, Col. (Rtd) Oguna said several flagship projects are in various stages of development and would be allocated to interested individuals through balloting when they are completed.

He said there are over 1,300 housing units at the Park Road Estate in Nairobi and another 8500 units will be developed at Shauri Moyo, Starehe and Kibra in Nairobi.

The Official said, the national government and County governments have identified over 11,000 acres for the construction of housing units and would enter into a Memorandum of Understanding once the discussions have been finalized with stake holders.He said financiers and developers with over 2.6 trillion financial strength have been identified to support the project.

He added that, the development of the housing units were private sector driven but facilitated by the government. He said that, the government was creating a conducive environment for investment by fast tracking approvals for the project, providing land and tax incentive among others.

The government spokesperson said there are deliberate attempts to empower the youth, through the Ajira Digital program and the Presidential Digital Talent Program. He said, over 22,000 youths have also received funding from Uwezo Fund to start small scale businesses to provide employment and generate wealth.
