Over 18 million Kenyans have registered for Huduma Number in the last 23 days, Principal Secretary for ICT Jerome Ochieng has said.

Mr Ochieng said after the lapse of the 45 days for the on-going mass registration, the centers will remain open across the country to allow for continuous registration. He commended the progress of the exercise explaining that the Huduma Number will eliminate irregularities associated with poor identification and ensure security of individual property and documents.

Speaking at the Telkom Kenya offices at Valley Road today where he led the registration of the company employees and their families, Ochieng emphasised the importance of Huduma number saying it will be the foundation of country as an information society and a digital economy.

The Principal Secretary said, using the number as a single source of truth will make it easy to configure devices to identify people for ease of transactions that will eliminate irregularities associated with disjointed and unreliable identification system.

Mr Ochieng said Kenya is among the top five African Countries who have taken a bold step to implement the National Integrated Identity Management System, a system he observed will enable the government to efficiently plan for resource allocation and service delivery to citizens.

He encouraged the public to register in any location and avoid travelling back to their rural homes for registration noting that their details can be captured wherever they are working or living or those on transit as long as they have their valid documents.
