The government has launched a taskforce that seeks to find ways on how to streamline the functions of information and public communication in public institutions to facilitate provision of information to the citizens and the media in line with the government’s policy of openness and accountability.

While launching the Taskforce on the improvement of information and Public communication functions at the Teleposta Towers today, the Cabinet Secretary for ICT, Mr. Joe Mucheru said, the taskforce will review the existing legislations and policies on information and communication to align the function with the requirements of the constitution.

Mr. Mucheru said the taskforce will also identify and make recommendations on how to revamp public communications and information departments in the government to facilitate access to information by the public.

The Cabinet Secretary said, with the evolving technology and mode of operation by government, there is need to respond to demand of information by the public in a timely manner.

The Cabinet secretary said information and public communication officers were an important aspect in the dissemination of information to the public and called on the officers to be proactive in giving information to the media and the public.

The Chairman of the taskforce Mr. David Makali said his team will work hard to t ensue they meet the expectations of the public and players in the media industry.

He called on support from the government through provision of resources and and other support services to ensure the success of the taskforce.
