The government plans to digitise all the 640 courts across the country to facilitate efficient delivery of judicial services, Cabinets Secretary for ICT Joe Mucheru has said.

Mr Mucheru said government will connect all the courts to broadband to facilitate digital recording of court proceedings that would be transcribed and a print-out for the same provided the following day.

Speaking during the official opening of the CIO100 Symposium and Award Summit in Naivasha today, Mr Mucheru said transcription services would create job opportunities for the youth and provide fast delivery of justice.

The Cabinet Secretary said connectivity of broadband has been extended upto the Sub-county level to integrate rural communities into the gig economy.

“Kenya aims at being the first country to commercialize a network of balloons travelling on the edge of space to connect undeserved communities in the country,” he said, adding that the government has invested heavily in the development of ICT infrastructure across the country and called on players in the public and private sectors to ride on the vibrant network to innovate. The Cabinet Secretary pointed out that through partnerships, the government targets to achieve 100 per cent 4G connectivity and offer internet access as a basic human right in the country.

He said the process of formulating Data Policy and Data protection Bill was on-going noting that the frameworks will define parameters for the protection of personal data in manuals, electronics and other forms through data regulator.

He announced that the Task Force on Distributed Ledger and Artificial Intelligence had completed the assignment and a report will soon be released to the public.
