The government plans to connect fibre optic cables to over 10,000 heath facilities across the country to facilitate delivery of quality and universal health care services, Cabinet Secretary for ICT Joe Mucheru has said.

Mr Mucheru pointed out that digital linkage to health facilities in the country will drastically reduce time and cost of consultation, diagnosis and treatment of diseases saying  the doctors and health care providers will share health information digitally even in remote places.

Addressing 3,500 form two and three scholars from across the country, during the Annual Education and Leadership Congress themed “Academic Discipline: A Bridge to Transformative Leadership” at the Kenyatta University multipurpose hall  today, Mr Mucheru said the government is also intensifying efforts to roll out digital infrastructure to schools, colleges and universities to position the country as an information society.

The cabinet Secretary said that, although technology can cause an employment, he noted that , ICTs presents greater opportunities that can create jobs and generate innovations that create wealth.

He said the government had created the Ajira digital platform to provide training and tools to the youth to access on-line job opportunities. He said there were continuing efforts to create awareness about the program and its benefits to the youth.

He called on the students to look out for information that help to lead them to career goals and employment opportunities.

The students are beneficiaries of the Wings to Fly program sponsored by Equity Bank . Currently, the company has awarded 15,168 comprehensive scholarships covering the 4 years of Secondary Education to academically gifted children from poor and vulnerable backgrounds.
