Principle Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunication, Mrs. Fatuma Hirsi, has pledged government support to the Kenya Institute of Mass Communications (KIMC) in fulfilling its mandate to produce skilled work force for the media and communication industry in the country.

Speaking at the Telposta Towers today, during a meeting with the Board members of KIMC, Mrs. Hirsi said, it was important to develop middle level colleges focused on skilled-based training that will make the country to be self-sufficient in human resource with technical capacity.

Mrs. Hirsi said, the government is committed to completing all on-going projects at KIMC such as the students’ hostel and the catering unit to accommodate more students.

The Institute Director, Mr. Hiram Mucheke said, the Institute is collaborating with the University of Nairobi to offer some Undergraduate Studies in some programmes as a marketing strategy.

Mr. Mucheke urged the National Treasury to release funds for the institution in good time for effective planning and completion of projects.

The Kenya Institute of Mass Communication is the oldest media-training college in the region and produces media and communication experts for the local and global market.
