The government has said it will deploy ICT solutions to promote attainment of food security, affordable housing, manufacturing, and universal health care.

Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) Joe Mucheru said, in the next three years, the government hopes to achieve universal health care for all citizens through the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF). He said ICT will the driving force in the identification and records management of the beneficiaries to promote transparency and accountability.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ preparatory meeting for the Africa Cyber Defense Summit at a Nairobi hotel today, Mr. Mucheru said the government would also use technology to ensure self-sufficiency in food production, access to affordable housing and vibrant manufacturing sector to increase income and improved standards of living.

The Cabinet Secretary, said the Computer and Cyber Security Bill which in parliament will soon be passed into law . He said the bill aims at creating certainty in the sector among foreign invest.

Mr. Mucheru said with the passing of the Bill, the government will attract foreign ICT firms and investors into the country that will generate competition and innovation and create employment opportunities.

He stressed on the need for concerted efforts to protect computer and ICT infrastructure against risk of cybercrime.
Among those present were Chairman of the Kenya Education Network, Prof. Kasholda, ICT Secretary Dr. Kate Getao and ICT Director John Sergon.
