PS Tanui Reaffirms Ministry's Digital Commitment During Gikomba Market Visit
The Principal Secretary for ICT and The Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui, CBS, on Monday conducted an inspection visit to the ongoing Gikomba Quarry Road Market Block D.
The inspection focused on the integration of a digital hub and public Wi-Fi, part of the Ministry of Information, Communication and The Digital Economy’s ongoing rollout across public markets to enhance connectivity, promote e-commerce, and advance digital inclusion among traders and surrounding communities.
Speaking during the visit, Eng. Tanui reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to embedding digital solutions in public infrastructure, noting that access to public Wi-Fi and digital hubs will enable traders to leverage online platforms, adopt digital payment systems, access government e-services, and improve overall business efficiency.
The PS further added that the digital hub will support e-commerce by enabling traders to expand beyond walk-in customers, access digital skills training, and connect to online platforms and delivery ecosystems, contributing to the modernization of local trade.
In attendance were the Secretary Administration, Mr. Jonam Kinama; the Secretary Infrastructure, Mr. Washington Okoth; the Deputy County Commissioner; the Area Chief and Gikomba Market leaders and traders.
