Officially opening the ISACA Kenya Chapter 2026 Annual Conference
Kenya stands at a critical juncture in its digital transformation and the priority must evolve from expanding access and driving innovation to strengthening governance, accountability, and building sustainable trust in an already established digital economy.
This morning in Mombasa County, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information Communication and the Digital Economy H.E Hon. William Kabogo Gitau, EGH, had the honour of officially opening the ISACA Kenya Chapter 2026 Annual Conference, a premier gathering of distinguished professionals, industry leaders, and global partners committed to advancing digital trust, governance, and cybersecurity in an increasingly interconnected world.
The Government of Kenya has made deliberate and sustained progress in the ICT sector, notably through the significant expansion of the national optic fiber network, which now connects thousands of institutions across the country, including more than 3,700 schools, thereby strengthening digital access, connectivity, and learning infrastructure.
Additionally, through the eCitizen platform, public service delivery in Kenya has undergone a significant transformation, with more than 23,000 government services now accessible online improving efficiency, transparency, and convenience for citizens.
At the same time, the expansion of digital hubs across the country is strengthening digital inclusion and advancing capacity building, particularly among young people, by equipping them with essential skills, fostering innovation, and opening up new opportunities within the digital economy.
As digital adoption grows, so do cyber risks, making it necessary to strengthen governance frameworks. This includes ongoing reforms to the Kenya Information and Communications Act and the continued enforcement of the Data Protection Act to keep our digital systems secure and reliable. The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner continues to play an important role in protecting sensitive data and ensuring compliance.
Looking ahead,the Cabinet Secretary, invited participants to continue these critical conversations at the upcoming Connected Africa Summit in Nairobi, where stakeholders from across the Global South will further explore the future of intelligent systems and digital governance.
