Kenya Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening ITU’s Regional Presence at WTDC 2025
Kenya has underscored the importance of a stronger, more agile regional presence within the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), as global leaders convene in Baku, Azerbaijan, for the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) 2025.
Speaking during the conference, the Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Mr Stephen Isaboke, EBS, acknowledged the invaluable role played by ITU’s Regional and Area Offices in delivering targeted, impactful support to Member States.
Kenya is advocating for greater devolution of decision-making authority, enhanced operational flexibility and an alignment of responsibilities with adequate resources. Empowering regional structures, the Principal Secretary stated, would not only accelerate programme delivery but also enable regions to mobilise partnerships and voluntary contributions more effectively.
PS Isaboke also highlighted the realities facing developing nations, such as constrained budgets, rapidly evolving digital needs and heightened public expectations. He emphasised that strengthening the ITU’s regional and area offices is vital to resolving these challenges.
“Kenya stands ready to work with all Member States to build a stronger, more responsive ITU that drives inclusive digital transformation across the globe,” he affirmed.
The WTDC 2025 conference continues to serve as a critical platform for shaping strategies that will guide global connectivity, digital inclusion and ICT development in the years ahead.
Also present in Baku are the Communication Secretary of the National Communication Secretariat, Eng. George Nyaory and the Director, Competition Management, Consumer Protection and Corporate Communications from Communications Authority of Kenya, Mr Christopher Wambua.
