PS Tanui presides over official handover of Kenya-AIST Project

Principal Secretary for State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy Eng.John Tanui today presided over the official handover of the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kenya-AIST) project at the Ministry’s headquarters.
The event marked the symbolic handover of keys by the project contractor to the Principal Secretary, who in turn officially handed them over to the Acting Principal, signaling the transition from construction to operational readiness.
This milestone represents a significant step in Kenya’s efforts to promote the knowledge economy as part of its broader economic transformation agenda, as envisioned in Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
Kenya-AIST, a graduate-only institution, modeled after the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is expected to play a vital role in advancing research, higher education and technological development in the country. Following the handover, focus now shifts to the next phases of the project, including institutional setup and the anticipated award of a university charter.
The ceremony was attended by Kenya-AIST Council Chairman Prof. Emmanuel Mutisya, Acting Principal Prof. J.W. Khamasi, Council members, Contract Implementation Committee and other senior government officials.
