PS Isaboke Announces Kenya’s Bid for Re-Election to the ITU Council

PS Stephen Isaboke has announced Kenya’s candidature for re-election to the International Telecommunication Union’s Council, with elections slated to happen during the 2026 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference. The PS emphasised that Kenya’s continued service will strengthen African representation and support the development of inclusive, secure and sustainable digital ecosystems worldwide.
Speaking during a luncheon hosted for high-level delegates on the sidelines of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) 2025 in Baku, Azerbaijan, PS Isaboke reaffirmed Kenya’s dedication to strengthening global digital cooperation and advancing inclusive connectivity.
He further articulated the country’s strong commitment to reinforcing the ITU’s role in shaping digital development priorities for the next five years, reiterating Kenya’s belief in the ideals of the ITU, which was founded on the understanding that Information and Communication Technologies are indispensable tools for inclusive socio-economic development.
He further noted that Kenya has been a reliable partner of the ITU, consistently hosting key events and providing platforms for dialogue, collaboration and knowledge sharing among Member States. These engagements have supported innovation, digital skills development and infrastructure expansion, contributing to the wider goal of equitable ICT access across regions.
