Partnership with Local institutions to build local capacity

The Ministry remains committed to building local capacity and technical expertise through partnerships with institutions of higher learning as it implements digital transformation projects, in line with the national digital transformation agenda of H.E. President William Ruto.
This morning, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy, H.E Hon. William Kabogo Gitau, EGH, inspected the ongoing assembly of 3,000 devices at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
In addition, a further 7,000 devices are being assembled concurrently at Moi University, accelerating the rollout of digital infrastructure and services.
The devices will be ready within three weeks and will be deployed to digital innovation hubs across the country.
This is in addition to more than 20,000 devices already in use across over 300 hubs. The programme targets the establishment of 1,450 digital innovation hubs nationwide, with at least one in each ward.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with Members of the National Assembly, who are supporting the construction of digital hub facilities through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
This partnership will strengthen local ownership and support the sustainability of the digital hubs.
Through increased availability of devices and strengthened infrastructure, the initiative will expand access, reduce the digital divide, and create opportunities for citizens.
In attendance were, Chairman JKUAT Council, Dr. James Micah Onsando;
JKUAT Vice Chancellor Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) Prof. Robert Kinyua; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration and Finance), Prof. Bernard Ikua; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Production and Extension), Prof. Jackson Kwanza; CEO ICTA , Mr. Jessy Maruti; Secretary ICT Infrastructure, Mr. Washington Okoth; representatives from KONZA Technopolis among other senior government officials.
