Building Kenya’s AI Future: Consensus in Action

Building a digital future requires more than infrastructure, it demands consensus. On February 12th 2026, the State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy wrapped up its Pre-Consolidation Briefing for Phase 2 of Kenya’s National Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies Policy formulation.
Hosted at the Radisson Blu Hotel alongside partners Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet) and UK International Development, the session was presided over by the Principal Secretary Eng. John Tanui, CBS.
PS Tanui emphasized the value of this collaborative effort, which builds on the National Inception Workshop held on 18th November 2025, alongside inputs from academia, civil society, the private sector, and tech communities—to position Kenya as a leader in African AI innovation.
He further noted that AI and Emerging Technologies can drive growth across sectors and these discussions will shape the final Kenya AI and Emerging Technologies Policy.
Discussions centered on guiding AI adoption, strengthening digital infrastructure, enhancing public service delivery, and fostering inclusive innovation.
Present was Dr. Tonny K. Omwansa, CEO, Kenya National National Innovation Agency (KeNIA) among other stakeholders from National and County Government representatives.
