Strengthening Kenya’s Digital Ecosystem
This morning, PS Stephen Isaboke held a productive meeting with GSMA, the global association of mobile operators, to discuss strengthening Kenya’s digital ecosystem. The engagement focused on improving spectrum quality and coverage, particularly for underserved and unserved communities, as part of ongoing efforts to bridge the digital divide and enhance the end-user experience.
The discussions explored best practices in spectrum management, affordability and sustainability, while also recognising Kenya’s strong position as a continental leader in digitisation and innovation.
There was shared recognition of the progress already made through collaborative efforts, as well as the need for continued cross-sector collaboration, including with the energy sector, especially as emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence place growing demands on power infrastructure.
The GSMA delegation comprised Ms Luciana Camargos, Global Head of Spectrum; Ms Caroline Mbugua, Senior Director, Public Policy and Communications; Mr Luiz Felippe Zoghbi, Spectrum Engagement Director and Senior Policy Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, Mr Linus Melly. Also present was the Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, Mr Temesi Mukani.
