Global UK Digital Access Programme (DAP) Cross-Country Peer Learning Event - Beneficiaries Connect Forum

The Principal Secretary for the State Department of ICT and the Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui, CBS, chaired the "Digital Skilling at Scale for Kenya" session today at the Global UK Digital Access Programme (DAP) Cross-Country Peer Learning Event - Beneficiaries Connect Forum, held at the Edge Convention Centre, Nairobi.

During his opening remarks, PS Tanui highlighted the launch of Kenya’s first National Digital Skills Curriculum at the Connected Africa Summit 2025 as a pivotal milestone. Noting that it draws from an ITU-led study on digital skills supply and demand across sectors, the curriculum establishes a structured framework for sustainable delivery.

Through intentional and strategic approaches to testing innovative digital inclusion models, the UK DAP program advances digital employability skills training for approximately 6,000 young people across ASAL counties such as Mandera, Samburu, and Elgeyo-Marakwet, as well as selected non-ASAL counties such as Busia and Mombasa.

PS Tanui stated that the Government aims to enable three million young people to access digital or digitally enabled jobs through employability skills and it has invested heavily in building these foundations for a digital economy.

Present at the event were Alessandra Lustrati, Head of Digital Development, FCDO (UK International Development); H.E. Hon. Lily Ng’ok, Chairperson of the ICT Authority Board; Chair of the Board (KICTANet) Ali Hussein; Ms. Lynette Ringeera, Deputy Director, ICT Authority and Dr. Nora Ndege, Researcher, Newest Model, Kilimo Hakika.
