Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Mr. Stephen Isaboke, EBS, tonight joined media professionals, innovators and industry leaders in celebrating a historic milestone, the 35th Anniversary of KTN, Kenya’s first private television station.
In his remarks, PS Isaboke paid tribute to KTN’s vision, courage and innovation, describing the anniversary as more than a celebration of years, but of the transformation that redefined Kenya’s broadcasting landscape.
He noted that the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy is implementing the Digital Superhighway and Creative Economy Agenda, connecting homes, schools and enterprises while creating opportunities for media through broadband expansion and digital skills.
“We congratulate KTN and the Standard Group for nurturing Kenya’s finest journalists and reaffirm the Government’s commitment to media freedom as a cornerstone of democracy, accountability and informed citizenship,” said PS Isaboke.
He further appealed to the media to uphold fairness, accuracy and ethics in reporting to strengthen public trust.
PS Isaboke also highlighted the changing media landscape marked by AI, on-demand platforms and digital transformation, reminding industry players that while content remains king, credibility is the crown.
He encouraged the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence to enhance authentic storytelling that uplifts Kenya and Africa.
“As we celebrate 35 years of KTN, let us envision the next 35, where technology and creativity unite Kenyans through integrity, professionalism and patriotism,” he concluded.
