Ministry to Strengthen Access to Information Through Collaboration with Ombudsman

The Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Mr. Stephen Isaboke, EBS, hosted a delegation from the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) led by Vice Chairperson and Commissioner in charge of Access to Information, Ms. Dorothy Kimengech, during their courtesy call at the Ministry headquarters this afternoon.
The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications and the Office of the Ombudsman to advance transparency, accountability and the constitutional right to access information.
The Commission on Administrative Justice plays a critical role in upholding Article 35 of the Constitution, which guarantees every citizen the right to access information held by the State. This aligns closely with the State Department’s mandate to facilitate public communication, promote media freedom, and enhance digital access to Government services and information.
PS Isaboke noted that effective information sharing is key to building public trust, strengthening governance and empowering citizens. He underscored the Ministry’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the CAJ to streamline information dissemination processes and leverage digital platforms to make Government data more accessible, accurate and citizen-friendly.
He further highlighted that by embracing joint initiatives between the State Department and CAJ, the Government can promote openness and inclusivity while ensuring that access to information remains a cornerstone of public service delivery in Kenya.
The meeting reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to fostering a transparent and accountable information ecosystem that empowers citizens to participate meaningfully in governance and national development.
Also present in the meeting was Mr Temesi Mukani, the Secretary for Information and Broadcasting.
