Kenya Highlights 5G Progress and Future Spectrum Strategy at MWC Shanghai 2026
Kenya has showcased its progress in spectrum management and 5G deployment at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2026, reinforcing the country's commitment to expanding digital connectivity and building future-ready telecommunications infrastructure.
Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Mr. Stephen Isaboke, EBS, participated in the Policy Leaders Forum on Spectrum, where he shared the country's experience in spectrum management and outlined Kenya's journey towards nationwide 5G adoption.

During the forum, the Principal Secretary highlighted the significant growth in 5G uptake and mobile broadband consumption since Kenya allocated its first 5G spectrum in 2022. He noted that the Government is preparing to make additional spectrum available to support continued network expansion, improve quality of service, lower the cost of data, extend connectivity to more communities and meet the increasing demand for advanced digital services.
The discussions also provided an opportunity to outline Kenya's forward-looking spectrum strategy, which seeks to ensure efficient spectrum management while creating an enabling environment for innovation, investment and digital inclusion.

PS Isaboke further participated in the high-level Policy Leaders Forum themed "The Future in Motion: Unleashing 5G Potential and Paving the Way to 6G," where policymakers, regulators and industry leaders from around the world exchanged perspectives on the policies, partnerships and investments required to unlock the full potential of next-generation mobile technologies.
