Diaspora plays a vital role in the digital space

Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u has appreciated the important role that Diaspora plays in the creation of digital jobs, acting as a bridge between global opportunities and local economies.

Speaking during The 11th Annual Kenya Diaspora Homecoming Convention (KDHC-2024) held in Nairobi, the CS noted that Diaspora communities often have access to advanced skills, training, and exposure to global best practices in technology.

Further reiterating that by sharing this knowledge and expertise with Kenyans, they contribute to the upskilling and elevation of the local talent to meet global standards.

She urged members of the Diaspora, especially those working in the tech industry, to invest in digital startups and innovation hubs in Kenya adding that their extensive networks of professionals, entrepreneurs, and businesses across the globe can be beneficial for the country.

“These networks can be leveraged to create partnerships between local and international companies, facilitating knowledge exchange, business opportunities, and job creation in the digital economy. By bringing together local talent with global partners, you will help local companies expand and grow, creating additional digital job opportunities,” the CS said.

CS Ndung’u remarked that Kenya's digital economy is experiencing rapid growth, fueled by technological advancements, a young and tech-savvy population, and its strategic role as a regional technology hub in Africa.

“For us to fully harness the potential of the digital economy, we must build a robust ecosystem that unlocks the power of digital jobs to reduce youth unemployment and create sustainable economic opportunities,” she stated.

The event was attended by the Global Chairperson of the Kenya Diaspora Alliance, Dr. Shem J. Ochuodho and other key leaders
