PS Isaboke flags off the first consignment of laptops and smart boards to schools.

10,382 Schools Set to Benefit from New Laptops and Smart Boards

The Government has launched the first consignment of laptops and interactive smart boards for schools, marking a major milestone in efforts to modernise learning and accelerate Kenya's digital transformation agenda.

The consignment, which was officially flagged off yesterday, will see 10,382 schools across the country receive the devices under the current phase of the Digital Literacy Programme Scale-Up.

Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications led the event and described the initiative as a significant investment in the country's future, saying it represents a deliberate effort to prepare learners for a technology-driven world.

"The Government of Kenya remains committed to building a digitally connected and knowledge-driven economy," the PS said, noting that the programme aligns with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), the Digital Superhighway Programme and ongoing education reforms aimed at ensuring no Kenyan is left behind.

He said the initiative goes beyond the distribution of devices, seeking to transform classrooms into centres of creativity, innovation and problem-solving.

"Our learners should not merely consume technology, but create with it, innovate through it and apply it to solving real challenges facing their communities and our nation," he said.

The programme forms part of the Government's broader digital infrastructure drive, which includes the rollout of 100,000 kilometres of fibre optic cable and the establishment of 1,450 digital hubs in wards across the country.

He urged teachers to embrace the new tools and integrate them into classroom instruction, while encouraging learners to use technology to explore, innovate and pursue their ambitions.

The Digital Literacy Programme Scale-Up is being implemented through a multi-agency partnership involving the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, the ICT Authority and the World Bank through the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project, among others.
