Government Strengthens Regulatory Coordination at 3rd Annual Regulatory Authorities Conference
The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regulatory coordination and improving service delivery through more accountable, citizen-centred institutions, as regulators from across the public sector convened for the 3rd Annual Regulatory Authorities and Agencies Conference in Kitui County.
Speaking as Chief Guest at the conference held at South Eastern Kenya University in Kwa Vonza, Deputy President H.E Prof Kithure Kindiki said regulatory authorities and agencies remain the most visible expression of Government in the daily lives of citizens, and therefore must move beyond process-driven compliance to service delivery that wananchi can directly experience.
The annual conference will over the next couple of days, bring together regulators from across Government to strengthen coordination, align regulatory action with the public interest and assess the evolving role of institutions in supporting national development. Deliberations focused on the need for regulatory agencies to remain firm and fair, demonstrate measurable impact, and anchor their work on accountability, transparency and results.
In his foundational remarks, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Hon Felix Koskei, noted that significant progress has been made across the regulatory landscape over the past three years, including stronger governance frameworks, improved institutional coordination, clearer mandates and deeper performance orientation. He called on regulators to accelerate the shift from procedural activity to substantive outcomes that improve citizen experience and generate measurable socio-economic impact.
Day One of the conference focused on the measurement and evaluation of regulatory impact, alongside discussions on the constitutional foundations guiding regulatory mandates. Regulators also shared implementation experiences and lessons aimed at strengthening evidence-based decision-making and coordinated action across Government institutions.
Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Mr Stephen Isaboke, EBS was also in attendance.
