Enhancing Media Accountability and Innovation
The Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Mr. Stephen Isaboke, EBS, today engaged with the Media Complaints Commission, staff and management of the Media Council of Kenya.
The discussions focused on the evolution of the media sector, which has transitioned from analogue to digital and continues to grow more dynamic with the rise of Artificial Intelligence. While new technologies present opportunities, they have also amplified challenges such as misinformation and disinformation, underscoring the need for multi-sector collaboration.
Kenya’s legal framework provides strong support for the sector, with the Media Council serving as a vital referee to ensure accountability, as enshrined in law and the Constitution. The meeting explored innovative approaches to strengthen partnerships, enhance teamwork and modernise systems.
PS Isaboke encouraged the Council to automate its services, processes and procedures to align with fast-evolving digital platforms, particularly those integrating AI.
The State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications commends the Council’s ongoing efforts and reiterates the Government’s commitment to a free, responsible and vibrant media that keeps Kenyans informed and engaged.
The PS was accompanied by the Secretary, Information and Broadcasting, Mr Temesi Mukani.
