Digital Inclusion Key to Empowering Marginalised Communities, Says PS Isaboke

Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Stephen Isaboke, EBS, has underscored digital inclusion as a key enabler for marginalised and minority communities to access economic opportunities and government services.
PS. Isaboke made the remarks while hosting a delegation from the Executive Office of the President’s Marginalised and Minority Affairs Unit, led by Hon. Lowoi Josphat, OGW, for talks on strategies to empower unserved and underserved populations.
Emphasising that digital inclusion is an equaliser, PS Isaboke outlined plans to bridge the digital divide, through the Digital Super Highway projects, that the government is currently rolling out across the country, to ensure that all Kenyan’s wherever they are, have access to government services.
The PS highlighted the Government’s commitment to establishing 1,450 digital hubs across every ward, supported by fibre optic cable extensions in partnership with the Kenya Power and Lighting Company to achieve last-mile connectivity.
The Universal Service Fund, managed by the Communications Authority of Kenya, will further ensure telecommunications services reach remote areas, reinforcing equitable access for all.
PS Isaboke also called for deliberate efforts to power the voice of the marginalised communities through storytelling on Government-owned media such as MyGov and Government digital platforms.
With 25,000 Wi-Fi hotspots planned for public spaces like marketplaces and the National Addressing System in development, the State Department is committed to amplifying voices and facilitating targeted service delivery.
PS Isaboke also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to inclusive policies, opportunities and a whole-of-government approach, stating, “We embrace the whole government approach and look forward to working together to ensure inclusivity.”
